I’ve never really fully comprehended about the importance of putting ourselves out there until a myriad of opportunities actually happened to me. I hope this writing serves as a message to youths to put themselves out there and reap the benefits of standing up for something and to be passionate about something at least once in their lives.
It has been quite an interesting journey since I started using this blog as a platform to grow my interest in investment and personal finance. It began off as a way for me to pen down my ideas and my opinion about issues pertaining to finance. But it’s very interesting how I began being approached by like-minded individuals and formed friendships along the way!
Because I stood out there and talked about what I liked, I was able to attract people who were just like me and had a common topic with me. Imagine if I never told anyone what I liked, what my opinions were about certain issues, nobody would have known, and I would have just been a wallflower, still desperately trying to differentiate myself from everyone else through academic grades.
Over the course of 2 years, so many things have happened to me just because I started writing about what my passion was about. And I never knew this day would come so soon, that I would be interviewed on live television. In fact, it never crossed my mind that such an opportunity like this would ever arise.
I am humbled and extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to be interviewed on CNBC because I put myself out there and shared what I love! (http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000553529) Opportunities don’t come knocking at your door if you don’t have a door to begin with. You’ve got to build your door and find your platform to share your ideas. I can assure you, nobody will mock at you if you stand out from the crowd and put yourself out there and genuinely feel that you are making a difference.
I genuinely feel that as youths, we aren’t putting ourselves out there enough. At least once in our lives, we need to stand up for something we believe in. Ignore the naysayers, ignore the criticism. Love what you do, and do what you love. Though you’ll never know what’s around the corner, sometimes, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you find. Go out there, and have a voice!
